My current thoughts on the situation is that the company should take as much time as possible to build up money and resources in order to truly improve their next game. If HeR were to back-track somewhat from their currently firm stance on having no creative team in-house, and re-hire some of those who created the original "magic", I would be much more likely to give my money and attention to them. I think we are, ultimately, extremely lucky to have so many games in which to immerse ourselves. Of course, it is not my intention to be particularly negative. Certainly, the bulk of the problem lies with the executives at HeR Interactive.) (This being said, I must emphasize that I do not blame the small, outsourced companies behind the actual creation of MID. The fact that those creating MID made no effort to recreate this effect makes it, and future games, hold no interest for me as a long-time player of the series. Therefore, the fingerprints of those creative persons are evident in every game, no matter how strange or un-enjoyable some may be. One can find the same names in each set of credits, from SCK even to the "Dossier" games. There have been 32 games, each created by a team that was passionate, if often rushed and misguided. These issues are proof that the game, on a basic level, lacks polish.Īt present, I must always respectfully disagree with those who say they would rather have HeR Interactive create another game like MID than go out of business. Even if the game did run smoothly, there was also confusion and frustration regarding the controls. Those complaining of MID running improperly or not at all on their computers were more numerous than those giving positive feedback. However, MID betrays two things: not only are they unable to deliver on such lofty claims, but they also did not have the finances to create a visually polished final product even to the levels of recent prior games. The extensive list of possibilities they constantly put forward in the past - Virtual Reality, releasing the games concurrently on multiple platforms, and so on - was very obviously a means of exciting potential investors, which was extremely important for their survival as they are a private company with a Board of Directors. I doubt they have the resources, particularly the money, to move forward. I replayed many of them with my roommate recently, at least 10, just this last weekend, but then I wanted to stop because I remembered that there probably won’t be any new Nancy Drew to experience anymore. Considering how many Nancy Drew books there are, it really is an endless pool for inspiration.

I also tend to have a soft spot for any games in the series that were based on a book, I felt those plots had a bit more detailed direction. if they really don’t know what direction to go with the series. If anything it really just needs a graphical update. It is a title more difficult to find now, but the story is already there so they could just work on the aesthetics at the bare minimum. I do think one thing that herinteractive can do is a remake of stay tuned for danger. I feel like there is little hope of ever getting a new game again, much less one that feels like it goes along with the tone of all the rest of the series.

Plus the reviews don’t make me too hopeful. I have played and beat every single game except midnight in salam just because I really don’t have the money for it right now. Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are.
